Calls for beach fire ban in St Ives
There has been fresh calls for a ban on beach fires in St Ives. In recent times there has been a spate of fires on Porthmeor beach started by youths who are accused of stealing timber, beach furniture and the like to fuel them. It is claimed that many are drinking underage and causing a general nuisance.
Currently it is perfectly legal to have a beach fire on the west end of Porthmeor beach but many fires have been on the east end. Calls have been made from Police to the town council to create a by law to make it illegal across all of the beach. This comes in the wake of Porthminster beach being voted 3rd best beach in the UK and 8th best in the EU.
