The Hub St Ives

The Hub in St Ives, Cornwall has been a lovely drink and eatery for a number of years on the harbour front, however for the 2013 season has had a makeover.  The Hub now sports a lovely new menu serving some quite frankly amazing BBQ food and craft beers.  Starting with the food there is a great selection of burgers from the classic burgers we all know and love to their self-styled ‘Big Kahuna’ burger made up of two 4 oz patties, pulled pork, swiss cheese, BBQ sauce and onion rings, oh yeah don’t forget the pickles salad and fries.  All the beef is Cornish, from Launceston and is aged 28 days.

There is a selection of hot BBQ sandwiches, hot dogs, homemade chilli’s and more.  It is presented fantastically and tastes even better.  If you are feeling particularly brave you could have a tray to share as me and my wife did.  Se the picture below, it was made up of homemade mac and cheese, a burger each, hot dog each, chicken wing each, homemade slaw and pickles.  All made from their kitchen smoke pit, also known as big al!

After a little while we got full and couldn’t quite manage the salad:

The hub has a great selection of craft beers, they have the German Bitburger on tap along with the relatively new Cornish lager, Korev.  Their other beers change from time to time but a lot are locally produced and come in either half pints or 2/3 pint measures.  They have a wine menu and, spirits and mixers and various bottled beers.

I liked the Hub before the recent changes, I found it a good place for a coffee, lunch, afternoon pint with great views or even some live music.  However now I love it even more, it offers something a bit different in St Ives and I think the brain child behind the change in menu and craft beer focus is great.  To top it off the Hub is extremely good value and priced so well and the service and staff are very friendly. Check out their site, follow them on Twitter and above all check them out when you are down in St Ives.
