Porthminster Cafe

The Porthminster Cafe in St Ives, Cornwall is one of the premier restaurants of this lovely fishing villiage.  It is not only critically acclaimed and multi award winning but has had a TV series following the kitchen team called Beach Cafe.  The Porthminster Cafe is open for teas, coffees, lunch and dinner and is open all year round.

The menu’s offer a great array of all local produce across meat, fish and vegetarian.  The quality is impeccable and the presentation is exquisite.  Like a lot of restaurants in St Ives, the Porthminster Cafe believes firmly in sustainability and buying local.  Aside from the lovely food available, for me, the service is the jewel in the crown of this Cornish restaurant.  Every time I have been the attention to detail and attentiveness is second to none, you are made to feel very welcome and your every need will be taken care of by the staff.

The views on offer at the Porthminster Cafe are beautiful, there is nothing I like more than a 7.30 reservation in the summer as the sun is setting over the historic St Ives town to look out and share a glass of wine with my wife.  From the waters softly lapping against the shore to the last beach dwellers leaving Porthminster Beach… heaven!

The Porthminster Cafe has a lovely garden roof terrace for outside dining which can be used in both summer and out of season due to the heated lamps which make it feel just like you are inside!  One piece of advice I can give is make sure you book!  In the summer months it books up quick so I would advise calling well in advance of your trip to avoid disappointment.  As an example I write this on 28th Jan 2013 and my wife booked last week for 16th March and there are only a few tables left.

My advice to anyone travelling to St Ives would be to try any restaurant, regardless of budget you will not be disappointed but for those wanting some of the finest food in Cornwall make sure the Porthminster Cafe is on your list.
